Do I need my wisdom teeth removed?
If your wisdom teeth grow in and are fully erupted without shifting the other teeth, are healthy, and are in the correct positions, you probably do not need to have them removed. However, many people’s wisdom teeth erupt incorrectly or not growing in at all due to lack of room in the mouth. When this happens, they become impacted which can result in painful complications like cysts or infections. Teeth which have only partially erupted may also require extraction as they are in a hard to clean area and at high risk for decay.

What can I expect from wisdom teeth removal?
Depending on your condition and situation, your doctor will use either local anesthesia, sedation anesthesia, or general anesthesia while performing the extraction procedure. The procedure requires several days of healing time afterward and often includes swelling, bleeding, and pain. This is often managed by several days of rest and pain relievers alongside changing the gauze placed over the extraction sites regularly. You will need to drink lots of water after your procedure and eat only soft foods for the first 24-48 hours.

Wisdom Teeth Removal in New Braunfels, TX
Dentists often recommend removing wisdom teeth before their roots fully grow into place. This helps prevent complications and provides a less complex and easier extraction. It can also prevent the pain wisdom teeth cause by nipping the problem in the bud. However, your dentist is your best source of information on wisdom tooth extraction and if it is right for you.
